I for Iran

Art/Society, Belgium 2014

Brussels, in the confines of a classroom. Using a textbook dating from the Islamic revolution, the director learns to read and write Persian, her mother tongue. Over the course of the lessons, her teacher teaches her the basics of the language, the gateway to Iranian history and culture. Gradually, the didacticism of the lessons is transformed into a poetic and visual collage that brings into play the notion of freedom and questions the meaning of a revolution.
